| We illustrate
here the Bristol 138, the machine which holds the altitude record
for Britain with a height of 53,937 feet, established by the late
Flt.-Lieut. M. J. Adam. It is of wooden construction with a four-bladed
air-screw, driven by a special Bristol Pegasus engine. Oxygen apparatus
is provided for the pilot, who sits in a specially warmed cockpit.
The machine takes about an hour-and-a-half to reach its ceiling. |
