
| The "Caledonia"
is one of the twenty-eight four-engined Empire flying-boats now being
built by Short Bros. (Rochester and Bedford) Ltd. for the Empire routes
of Imperial Airways. These boats have accommodation for twenty-four
passengers in four cabins by day, and sixteen passengers by night,
when four sleeping berths are erected in each cabin. There is a smoking
cabin and also a promenade salon. On the upper deck is the pilot's
bridge, also the ship's office, and a hold for 3½ tons of mail.
The "Caledonia" has four 740 h.p. Bristol "Pegasus"
engines. The top speed of these flying-boats is 200 m.p.h.: weight
fully loaded, approx. 18 tons. |
