| The Boeing 247D
is a high-performance, all metal air liner built by the Boeing Airplane
Company. It has accommodation for ten passengers, two pilots and a
stewardess, and carries a considerable load of freight and mail. It
is fitted with two 550 h.p. Pratt & Whitney "Wasp" engines
and retractable undercarriage, the wheels of which are only half-buried
in the wing so that an emergency landing can be made with wheels up
without serious damage. Pennsylvania Airlines uses this type of machine
on its Washington-Detroit-Milwaukee services. The 247D weighs 13,650
lbs. fully loaded, and cruises at 171 m.p.h. |
