Vraic (Seaweed) Harvest Jersey C.I.
Vraic (Seaweed) Harvest.  Prior to Guano and artificial fertilisers farm yard manure and seaweed were extensively used to enrich the Islands soil.  Many farmers kept insufficient animals to produce adequate quantities of manure for their crops, seaweed was invaluable to make up the shortfall.  It is also very useful when used on sandy soil due to it's moisture retaining properties.  It was applied to the soil both as gathered and when dried.  Piles of drying vraic were a common sight along the from La Pulente to L'Etacq right up to the mid 1970's.
